Involta Launches Tucson Internet Exchange for Cost Effective Connectivity

Phoenix Business Journal

Involta, an award-winning data center infrastructure, hybrid IT and cloud-forward consulting firm, announces the launch of the Tucson Internet Exchange (TUSIX), located within the company’s state-of-the-art data center in Tucson, Arizona.

TUSIX is a not-for-profit initiative dedicated to fostering local connectivity and collaboration among internet-related organizations in the Tucson region. This strategic hub enables businesses to peer and exchange their network traffic locally, resulting in several notable benefits, including:

  • Improved Local Performance and Reliability: By keeping local traffic local, TUSIX ensures that data is transmitted more efficiently, resulting in superior performance and reliability.
  • Lower Latency Connections: Reduced latency leads to seamless interactions, faster data transfers, and an enhanced user experience.
  • Cost Savings: Local traffic exchange reduces the need for third-party internet traffic, which cuts costs and minimizes the risk of broken transit connections, ultimately benefiting the region’s businesses.

Operated by Involta, TUSIX represents a significant milestone in Involta’s infrastructure commitment to the region. In addition to superior data center experiences, first-class fiber and connectivity services and advanced multi-cloud solutions, this endeavor aligns with Involta’s mission to provide holistic solutions that empower local businesses and organizations to thrive in the digital age.

“Involta is proud to facilitate this vital infrastructure to help support the growth and innovation of Tucson’s businesses,” states Aaron Slotness, Involta’s Director of Network Infrastructure. “The Tucson Internet Exchange is a collective peering effort designed to create additional internet access points in the Tucson area and exemplifies Involta’s commitment to the region and our unwavering dedication to improved internet connectivity and the most advanced digital solutions available.”

The Tucson Internet Exchange is open to all internet-related organizations operating within the Tucson market. There are no stringent requirements for participation other than adhering to the exchange’s established rules. As part of Involta’s commitment to bolster local connectivity and foster growth, Involta offers 1GbE and 10GbE ports free of charge for participants, allowing seamless connection.

Participants are only responsible for covering a monthly fee for single-mode fiber cross-connections to the switch within the data center and any transport costs to the data center if needed, ensuring that this innovative resource remains accessible to a wide range of organizations.
