Alibaba.com CoCreate: Partner with the world’s largest e-commerce company and expand your business at Las Vegas event

GPEC, Startup Island Taiwan ink agreement to foster business collaboration

The Greater Phoenix Economic Council and the office that promotes Taiwan’s startup sector are forming a partnership to spur future business collaboration in emerging tech sectors and help more Taiwanese companies gain a foothold in Arizona. GPEC and Startup Island Taiwan — with support of the National Development Council of Taiwan — inked a memorandum of understanding Aug. 17 in Taipei that recognizes a commitment to expand joint business missions and investment opportunities for Taiwan’s startup community in the Valley. Intel enters partnership to advance chip foundry goals

Intel Corp. is building on a key partnership to help it boost its semiconductor foundry business. Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) and Synopsys (Nasdaq: SNPS) announced an agreement Monday in which Intel uses Synopsys intellectual property and electronic design automation for its Intel Foundry Services customers. The chipmaker’s foundry business is a key part of its yearslong effort to regain semiconductor manufacturing leadership in the face of stiff market competition — an effort that includes a major expansion of its Valley operations that employ more than 12,000 people. Raytheon wins $322.5 million Army contract for versatile missile system

The U.S. military has awarded a $322.5 million contract to Raytheon Land & Air Defense Systems for tube-launched missiles for the U.S. Army. Under the contract, the Tucson-based division of Virginia-based defense giant RTX (NYSE: RTX) will produce tube-launched, optically tracked, wireless-guided 2B missiles for the Army, with work scheduled to be completed by the end of September 2026. The missiles are part of Raytheon’s TOW weapon system, which the company describes as a long-range precision system that ground forces and others can use against tanks and other armored, wheeled and amphibious threats in any environment or condition. GT Medical Technologies awarded the Arizona Bioscience Company of the Year for disrupting the status quo in brain tumor treatment

The Arizona Bioindustry Association, Inc. (AZBio) announced that GT Medical Technologies, Inc. (GT MedTech) will be honored as the Arizona Bioscience Company of the Year at the 2023 AZBio Awards and 20th Anniversary Celebration on Sept. 27 in Phoenix, Arizona. Driven to improve the lives of patients with brain tumors, a group of brain tumor specialists and medical device experts joined forces to reimagine brain brachytherapy for operable glioblastomas (GBMs), meningiomas, and brain metastases. ‘Galactic 02, safe and sound’: Virgin Galactic flies private astronauts into space for first time

Virgin Galactic — the company that will be building its spaceships at a new plant under construction in Mesa — sent a crew of private astronaut passengers into space from New Mexico’s Spaceport America Thursday morning for the first time in the space tourism company’s near 20-year history. A gaggle of media inside Virgin Galactic’s “Gateway to Space” hangar — the centerpiece building at Spaceport America located about 25 miles southeast of Truth or Consequences — and onlookers outside the Spaceport’s security fence peered up through clear morning skies as VSS Unity, Virgin’s spaceship, carried a four-person crew nearly 55 miles above the southern New Mexico desert. Axon files plans for huge corporate HQ site, and more, in north Scottsdale

Nearly three years after a major purchase of north Scottsdale land, Axon Enterprise Inc. submitted a proposal that outlined its vision to turn that vacant land into its new corporate headquarters — and much more. The Scottsdale-based law enforcement technology company filed a rezoning case with the city of Scottsdale on Tuesday that will eventually be heard by Scottsdale’s planning commission and City Council. The 74 acres Axon owns at the southeast corner of Loop 101 and Hayden Road would essentially be split into three portions: Axon’s headquarters on the east end and a residential, retail and hotel component on the west side. Five prominent business leaders join University of Arizona Tech Parks governance

Tech Parks Arizona is pleased to announce the appointment of five new members to the board of directors which oversees the University of Arizona’s tech parks. The University of Arizona Tech Park (UA Tech Park) and The UA Tech Park at The Bridges are owned by the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) on behalf of the University of Arizona. Campus Research Corporation (CRC) a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation was established to maintain, develop, operate, market and lease the parks to support the educational, research and land grant mission of the University of Arizona. The CRC board of directors support Tech Parks Arizona’s leaders in creating long-term sustainability and meaningful impact in the community, region and state. Read more >>


GateWay Community College maker space yields $36M economic impact, GPEC finds

Phoenix Forge, the open-to-the-public maker space at GateWay Community College in Phoenix, is expected to produce $36 million in economic output, according to the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. GPEC’s regional impact analysis of the space also found that Phoenix Forge would generate an estimated $1.4 million in tax revenue and $16.5 million in personal income. The figures were announced this week by GateWay Community College, one of 10 schools in the Maricopa County Community College District. Read more >>


Hobbs announces new worker safety partnership with TSMC

Gov. Katie Hobbs visited the site of Taiwan Semiconductor’s new facility in north Phoenix to announce a new worker safety partnership for construction workers following reports of accidents and alleged safety violations at the site. Hobbs, Industrial Commission of Arizona Director James Ashley and TSMC Arizona President Brian Harrison signed on to the new voluntary workplace safety agreement. “Under this agreement, TSMC will adhere to requirements higher than those at the federal level,” Hobbs said. According to LinkedIn, two of the most shared topics on leadership in 2022 were related to empathy and kindness.  As I reflect on the commentary and advice each author imparts, I found myself thinking, “What is trendy or trending isn’t just a trend.” The research is clear – being empathic and kind creates a more productive, inclusive and innovative work environment. And sentiments from employees speak loudly – we want to work for and with people who embody those behaviors.
